As we greet another summer, we also wish a Happy 155th Birthday to our beloved Peterson Dumesnil House! For 155 years, the House has served as a distinctive feature in our community and provided the neighborhood with a sense of historic identity. But, did you know the House was once headed for demolition? What was originally built as a summer home to a tobacco merchant, the House eventually became property of the school board before a decision was made to demolish the home. Fortunately, neighbors and local preservationists saved the home from demolition, and now it’s a beloved Louisville Landmark.

What makes the House more than just a nationally registered historic home is our mission to be a welcoming place where the community can gather and enjoy part of the neighborhood’s history. We invite neighbors to take advantage of the beauty of the House and grounds, whether that be to have a picnic, enjoy a walk on the new pathway alongside the House, gaze at the massive Ginkgo tree, or take photos on the front steps. We do remind visitors to please be respectful if there are weddings or other rental events taking place.

In July, we will once again welcome the annual Crescent Hill 4th of July Festival at the House. As part of this event, we will host our annual silent auction and raffle. The items can be viewed here and inside the House during the Festival. Some of the items up for grabs include a Bourbon tasting for 10 people, a wine tasting for 20 people, a French Farmhouse vacation, golf at Valhalla for 3, and much more. We would truly appreciate your support of the auction and raffle, as it is a big fundraiser for the Foundation and allows us to continue preserving the House for the community to enjoy.

If you enjoy live music, save the dates for the Concert Under the Cupola series coming up July 21st with Family Matters and September 29th with the Louisville Mandolin Orchestra both starting at 6:30pm. These are free, family-friendly events that feature local bands performing on the front porch or lawn. Bring your chair and enjoy live music with your neighbors!

Be sure to check our website calendar and social media for up-to-date news on events at the House.
