By: Cynthia Thomas, CHCC Board Member & Former 4th of July Festival Chair
It’s that time of year again—planning for the Fourth of July Festival is underway! While I officially retired from chairing the event last year, I’m still here to support our new chair. Please join me in thanking Erin Klarer for stepping up to lead this year’s festival!
I’m excited that we’re keeping this beloved tradition going, but I want to be honest with you—we need volunteers to take on key roles. Without new leadership for certain committees, some aspects of the festival may not happen. If you’ve ever thought about getting involved and/or you just love the event and would hate to see it come to an end now is the time. We need chairs for the following committees:
1. Food Vendors
2. Fireworks
3. Music
4. Pet Contest
5. Art Fair (our current chair is now co-chairing the overall event)
6. Children’s Area & Activities
7. Publicity
8. Volunteers
I’ve personally worked on all of these except fireworks and music, and I can tell you that each role—on its own—is manageable. The challenge is that a small group of volunteers is wearing too many hats. We need more people to step up!
Additionally, our longtime fireworks and music chair is retiring this year. Our current plan is to scale back the music—possibly just having a DJ—but that decision depends on who steps up to lead. If you’re interested in helping with any of these areas, please reach out via email to [email protected]!
Let’s make this another great Fourth of July together!
